Services provided by an elementary school counselor

  • Consulting with teachers, parents, administrators, and others.

  • Listening in an effort to resolve conflicts.

  • Communicating with parents about strategies that help their children with social skills, academics, and career planning.

  • Referring students to outside referral agencies when appropriate.

  • Consulting with other school professionals regarding curriculum decisions.

  • Helping students learn responsibility by becoming aware of the consequences of their behavior.

  • Provide lessons in academic development, career development, and personal/social development, to foster self-efficiency in students.

  • Explaining test results to help students and parents understand and use the information appropriately.

Elementary counselors serve the needs of elementary students by:

    • Helping students do better in school

    • Helping students build positive self images

    • Helping students develop better interpersonal relationships

    • Helping students develop good feelings about work, family, and society

 

 

Counseling lessons are based on student needs and follow the Missouri Learning Standards for School Counseling
