Students in Mrs. Beyer’s 6th grade class presented argumentative speeches both for and against hot topics. Students voted on the topics they most wished to research and argue including, the driving age should be lowered to 15 and sixth grade students should be allowed to use cellphones at school without restrictions. Students worked in teams to research and provide support for their position either for or against the issue then had to present a rebuttal on the other sides position. In the end, Judge Beyer ruled based on organization, evidence of support, rebuttal, eye-contact and confidence. We definitely have some future speech and debate students!
